Wow! A lot has happened in 5 years. Career moves, physical moves and a whole new human!
It's been so fun to look back on the 10 years that I've been (really randomly) posting a few words here. Since my last post I've steadily been working in scripted Film and TV, moved a few times for work and had another baby. Finding a way to juggle family and a creative profession is what I've been chasing since my days in undergrad, but it has revealed itself to be pretty grueling at times, leaving me with little time to create my own art. I do try to sneak in the occasional sketch, block print or painting so here's a little art dump to catch up.

I'm back! It's been about 3 years since I last posted here and about 5 months since my last creative project. For Black History Month I embarked upon what I thought was going to just be a quick daily instagram post... It turned out to be a hugely personal project that I spent countless hours on and I have to say, it blossomed into something I couldn't have imagined. Every day was filled with a the challenge of creating something new. It was a reminder that creativity feeds the soul. I'll post a few letters here everyday to ride that wave for a little while longer. I have recently found that working on a new project whilst out of the country is no easy feat, especially when you have to source all of the materials for said project from your current location. Aaaarrrgh! Some of the items I have found with no issues but others I am completely struggling to get. It almost makes me want to put the project off until I get back home but I'm making so much progress on the artwork I don't want to let the logistical details get in the way. Plus May is a long time to wait! Hopefully by my next post I'll be showing this beast of a piece with the satisfaction of overcoming all of the obstacles.
So now that I have gotten my rant out for the day I will share my most current sketches. It was pure boredom that inspired these quick sketches so enjoy! Just finished another sunday illustration. It was just going to be a quickie black and white drawing but as you can see it turned into a little more. I wasnt super excited about how it was turning out toward the halfway point but it morphed into something cool. somehow the messy lines give it a little life and the soft color keeps it quite dreamy. I think i like it...
Just wrapped a show and with the residual energy and new materials completed this sassy little girl. Pretty happy with how she turned out! Now on to the next one! So I failed to draw anything on day 4 ... but for good reason. I was actually doing work related work! Things are going warp speed around here and I was finally included in some fun stuff. This entailed retrieving some tables from ikea, picking up a book from the local art/architecture bookstore and driving very very far to scope out some possible materials. The previously mentioned materials are the recycled excess from various manufacturing companies and exist in a large warehouse open to the public's perusal. This by far was the most enjoyable part of the day. Today, on the other hand, things were back to normal. ie...I made some copies. Thusly... daily drawings back on track. until tomorrow... So the good news is that I did more work (at work) yesterday. This consisted of driving 8 miles to drop something off and fetching lunch. I also attached one drawing to a board for a design meeting. I was hoping to sneak into said design meeting with some very important people but alas my lowly status did not allow such a gratuitous event to occur. The bad news is that with my new found work load I didn't upload my daily drawing. Back to the good news...Im uploading it now! |
